OpenTracing<\/a><\/h1>

OpenTracing<\/a> is a vendor-neutral open standard for Distributed Tracing<\/a> in software applications. It provides a set of API<\/a> specifications that allow developers to instrument their code without being locked into a specific tracing backend. The project was originally accepted as the third project into the CNCF<\/a> (Cloud Native Computing Foundation), following Kubernetes<\/a> and Prometheus<\/a>.<\/p>

The fundamental unit of OpenTracing<\/a> is the Span<\/a>. A Span<\/a> represents a logical unit of work that has an operation name, a start time, and a duration.
