Originally established as a Movie-Ranch, the site served as a backdrop for numerous Western-themed productions throughout the mid-20th century, including The-Lone-Ranger and Bonanza. The ranch was owned by George-Spahn, an elderly man who had gone blind by the time the Manson-Family arrived in 1968. Charles-Manson and his followers were permitted to live on the ranch for free in exchange for maintaining the property and assisting with George-Spahn's horse-rental business. During their tenure, the Manson-Family converted the ranch into a communal living space, which ultimately became the nerve center for the group's descent into violence.

The ranch is most infamous for being the location where the Tate-LaBianca-Murders were orchestrated. It was from Spahn-Ranch that members of the group, including Charles-Watson and Susan-Atkins, departed on the nights of the killings in August 1969. Following the arrests of the Manson-Family members, the ranch was largely abandoned. In September 1970, a massive brush fire swept through the Santa-Susana-Pass, destroying the dilapidated movie sets and residential buildings. Today, the land is preserved as part of the Santa-Susana-Pass-State-Historic-Park, where visitors can still see the remnants of the 'Manson Cave' and other geological features associated with the era. Detailed accounts of the ranch's history and its role in the 1960s counterculture are documented by the Los-Angeles-Times and Britannica.

Manson-Family

Charles-Manson

Helter-Skelter

Sharon-Tate

",
