AWS-Secrets-Manager
AWS-Secrets-Manager is a comprehensive secrets management service provided by Amazon-Web-Services that enables users to protect, manage, and retrieve sensitive credentials throughout their lifecycle. By using AWS-Secrets-Manager, organizations can eliminate the risk associated with hardcoding sensitive information like database passwords or API-Keys directly into source code. Instead, applications query the service via a secure Application-Programming-Interface to retrieve credentials at runtime.
A core functionality of AWS-Secrets-Manager is its ability to automatically rotate secrets. This feature is often implemented using AWS-Lambda functions, which execute the logic necessary to update the secret in both the manager and the target service, such as Amazon-RDS. All secrets are encrypted at rest using the AWS-Key-Management-Service, ensuring that sensitive data is never stored in plaintext. Access is controlled through AWS-Identity-and-Access-Management policies, which allow for granular permission settings based on the principle of least privilege.
As detailed in the official AWS documentation, the service also integrates with AWS-CloudTrail to provide detailed logs of every secret access and rotation event. This makes it an essential component for achieving Compliance and maintaining high standards of Cloud-Security. The service is designed to be highly available and scalable, meeting the demands of enterprise-level applications.
