Dallas Area Rapid Transit

Dallas Area Rapid Transit, commonly referred to as DART, is a regional transportation authority based in Dallas, Texas. Established in 1983, the agency provides public transportation services to 13 member cities across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Its service area includes Plano, Richardson, Garland, Irving, and Carrollton. DART is widely known for operating the longest light rail system in the United States. Detailed performance reports and schedules are available on the official DART website and via Wikipedia.

Modal Services

The DART Light Rail network consists of four primary lines: the Red Line, Blue Line, Green Line, and Orange Line. These routes converge in Downtown Dallas at major transit hubs like West End Station and St. Paul Station. In addition to rail, the agency manages a comprehensive bus system, paratransit services, and the Trinity Railway Express (TRE), a commuter rail line operated jointly with Trinity Metro to connect Dallas and Fort Worth.

Expansion and Future Projects

A significant current project is the Silver Line, formerly known as the Cotton Belt Regional Rail Corridor, which will provide regional rail service from Plano to DFW International Airport. DART has also focused on Transit-Oriented Development to stimulate economic growth around its stations. In 2022, the agency launched DARTzoom, a total redesign of its bus network to improve frequency and reliability for North Texas commuters.
