STRUCTURED-DATA refers to a standardized format for providing information about a web page and classifying its content. By implementing specific markup, website owners help search engines like GOOGLE-SEARCH and BING understand the context of the data. This is primarily achieved using the SCHEMA-ORG vocabulary, which was developed through a collaboration between GOOGLE, MICROSOFT, YAHOO, and YANDEX.

The three most common formats for STRUCTURED-DATA are JSON-LD, MICRODATA, and RDFA. As noted by Google Search Central, JSON-LD is the preferred format for modern SEARCH-ENGINE-OPTIMIZATION. When correctly applied, this data can trigger RICH-RESULTS, such as review stars, recipe cards, and event snippets, which improve the CLICK-THROUGH-RATE from search engine result pages.
