Amazon-Web-Services DynamoDB
DynamoDB is a fully managed, multi-region, multi-active NoSQL database service provided by Amazon-Web-Services. It is designed to provide consistent, single-digit millisecond latency at any scale. As a Serverless database, it handles administrative tasks such as hardware provisioning, setup, configuration, and replication.
Core Components
The fundamental building blocks of DynamoDB are Tables, Items, and Attributes. Unlike relational databases, it uses a flexible schema. Each Table requires a Primary-Key, which can be a simple Partition-Key or a composite key consisting of a Partition-Key and a Sort-Key.
Performance and Scalability
To optimize query patterns, developers use Global-Secondary-Indexes and Local-Secondary-Indexes. The service supports both On-Demand-Capacity and Provisioned-Capacity modes to manage throughput. For caching, DynamoDB-Accelerator (DAX) provides an in-memory cache to further reduce response times. Security is managed through Identity-and-Access-Management (IAM) roles.
Technical specifications and use cases are detailed on the official AWS product page and the AWS Developer Guide.
